MG TD TF 1500 - Upholstery/side panel question

Sorry, only photo I could grab but, I remember there was quite a discussion on how to wrap the panel around this pipe. Cant find it in the archives, even though I know it's there. Matthew showed his panel and others offered how to wrap it around the face of this pipe. Any help on this? PJ

Paul,
I just finished installing a Moss kit in my TD a few weeks ago. As for going around the pipe it was really not a problem. I fastened the door edge of the kick panels in question then just used my hand to bend the cardboard around the pipe and get a good idea of where the first screw would go and held it in position and drilled through the cardboard into the body wood underneath and installed the first screw and finish washer. Start at the bottom and work up as there is a less severe bend at the bottom. once you get the first screw in it gets a little easier. I placed 3 screws and finish washers on each side of the car equally spaced.

If you're working with a Moss kit you'll notice that these panels are the only ones on cardboard, so the can be bent around the pipe.

This is the best photo I could find and you can see the first bottom screw on each side.

Thank you, that's quite helpful. PJ

Paul, see http://www.ttalk.info/TDKickPanels.htm for John Crawley's approach. Bud

John Crawley's method seems to make a lot of sense for duplicating the original shape of the panel. I think I will give this approach a try as I will be doing that job soon.

Bud, Seeing that I have a 48 inch sheet metal break with the V bar, I'm going to use this method to do mine. Thank you for the link to the site, which I saved. Even though it wasn't mentioned, I think using a sheet of linen between the break and panel will protect the vinyl upholstery. PJ
