MG TD TF 1500 - Vacuum brakes
Has anyone ever fitted a vacuum brake booster to a TD and if so where did you place the booster? Any suggestions anyone. Thanks. John...Sydney |

I guess I've got to ask,,,, Why?????? SPW |

The answer is 'yes'. At least three of us have done so. Try the archives for 'power brakes'. Two of us located the servo above the rear axle. The other location is on the hoop behind the dash. Why? Easier for senior spouses. Bud

Also speak with Rob Woodfull in your part of the world, who installed a booster in his blue Matilda Grace before and after his supercharger purchase. Properly set up, I have never had a problem with T-series brakes, and have never felt the need for a booster. Tom Lange MGT Repair |

Thank you for the information Bud and Tom. I am 75% complete on my restoration and the thought crossed my mind that this may be an avenue to persue. I have installed a booster on my MGB and am happy with it. John...Sydney |

The booster used is the same one from the MBs. Now being sold by Moss. FYI, it's a totally reversible modification. Only thing that would show is the plug that you'd have to put in the hole in the intake manifold. Bud |

Thanks Bud. No problem to drill and tap the inlet manifold should I decide to go ahead. I will see how the brakes are when I get the TD on the road. I have just been helping a neighbour bleed his brakes on a 1951 TD which he has almost finished. Only need to install a mechanical water temperature gauge, and check the wheel alignment and hopefully it should be ready to obtain registration. John...Sydney |
