MG TD TF 1500 - Value of a Parts Car ?
I have a friend who has a 53 TD. The car has sat for years and several attempts have been made to restore it but its condition at this point relegates its status to that of a parts car at best. Most of the important pieces are there and he needs to know the approximate value for purpose of a sale. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Jim |

Pictures are worth a thousand dollars... Here's my range: I just offered $1,500 for a TD that has been sitting outside for 20 years: all there but rotten body and dented fenders, instruments full of water, frozen engine, frame with rust holes through it, no interior. The sellers laughed in my face, only to be offered even less by the next two people who looked at the hulk. I think a decent parts car, unknown whether complete or not, needing restoration but matching numbers and rolling, with instruments, turning engine and transmission intact, and interior, is a $2,500-4,500 car, depending on condition. I have bought various barn-find Mark II cars in the past few years, cars that are mostly complete but need everything including some wood. $4,500-55,500. Tom Lange MGT Repair |

Tom, I hope that was $5,500 not $55,500. Mort |

Dave, You don't know those Mainers very well, they'll never spend a buck unnecessarily. My great grandfather captained a ship from E. Machias to California during the gold rush, not to find gold but to start a lumber company. Made him a wealthy man until his divorce. Tom, Thanks for the guidelines. Jim |

...for what was described, i would think the $1500 was a fair price to start at... you have to look at a parts car and confirm that there are actually parts usable..... |

Interesting story Jim. My Great Grandfather did the same, but instead of mining, he took cattle out to the gold fields and made his fortune supplying the gold towns with beef. Unfortunately, everyone that owns a T thinks it is that one find that everyone is searching for. |
