MG TD TF 1500 - valve cover wheelie
a Wing & a Prayer!![]() |

Those two fat tyres are doing a good job of keeping that beastie pointed straight Jim, unlike the errant lion. Event and location? Matthew. |

Alden Classic Sports Car Show, Alden, MI Aug 11,2013. Twin Bay British Car Club host the annual show. Last year, there were 106 really fine rides that showed up, most British, but it is open to all "sport Cars." Drive your MG over next year! The wide slicks are locked onto a "live axle" so they roll exactly the same; I even turned them down on the lathe to exactly the same OD. Even so, I provided for front end alignment to tweak it to run straight. The "lion" was a buffalo, which belongs to our MI Chapter Club Chairwoman, Sandy Kuivenhoven, but she referred to it at our Tuesday meeting as a squirrel. It is more like a chameleon that changes constantly. |

Jim, Sooo is it weighted so that it kind of balances on the rear wheels???? Or was this taken after it came off of the ramp and bounced on the flat runway? SPW |

It weighs 30lbs exactly, and with the block of lead in the back, the center of gravity is about 1" in front of the rear axle. As it is, the front wheels just about climb over the starting gate; any larger and they would. When it comes off the ramp and levels off, it pulls a wheelie. |

Nice! |

Very nice,,, but obviously not legal in most events,,, |

Not legal according to who? NEMGTR keeps changing their specs with no logic whatsoever. They've made virtually all existing racers illegal. Instead of attracting more competitors, it sends a message not to bother showing up. |

I can remove the lead ballast so it runs in the 12 lb category, too. I've heard legends of the valve cover racer in Ohio that tips the scale at over a hundred pounds! |

The NEMGTR only reciently begun seriously hosting valve cover racing. Our rules were decided on in a open forum, and those initial rules were relaxed to allow more competition. The rules have been posted in TSO, and will be avalable on line shortly. Basically, there are two classes. The regulation class has more rules, the other class basically allows anything 12 pounds or less that physically fits on the track. I would be happy to email the rules to anyone who is interested' or to answer any questions that you may have. I had never heard of valve cover racing before this post. I had to google it... I'm always learning something from this forum. I did see in one race that the rules included "Nothing may extend beyond the gasket surface on the front of the racer".... Guess it varies! |
