MG TD TF 1500 - Water Pump Pulley

The casting is broken on mine, so I need to replace. Anyone with experience on the new ones available? Do they fit the original spacers OK or do I need to order the new spacer, as well? Am I better off finding a used one?
David Littlefield

David I just installed a Moss pump on my 54TF. You need to grind an 1/8" off the lower edge of the mounting flange. Interferes with the timing chain housing. No other issues. No leaks etc. I did not remove the radiator. Used all the fasteners and the fan mounting disc. Just read the instructions to make sure you don't bind the pump up. The instructions are really quite good.
The Moss pump is a 6 vane pump. Lowered my operating temperature nearly 10 degrees C.

Thanks, Peter, but I've already got the water pump (same 6 vane from Moss). I was looking for information concerning the pulley as I discovered that the casting was broken where one of the fan bolts fit into it. Thanks for the advice about grinding the pump, though, I haven't tried to fit it, yet.

I saw an original pulley on sale on ebay. Not cheap though :) You might also be able to find someone locally who can weld it?

David - check with these folks

And there is one one ebay:

Moss has it here as part # 434-060.

Call and ask them if it fits without modifications.

For reference, here is mine. I don't think welding is an option, unfortunately. You'll note that one of the holes has the remains of a bolt in it that would have to be drilled out, as well.

Thanks, Bobby for those links. I had found the eBay one and knew about the Moss part. I was just hoping someone had some real world experience with the new parts available so I could decide which way to go.

Thanks again.

You'd be surprised what a good welder can do, who knows cast iron. As far as the bolt is concerned, I had two which looked the same. Heated it up red hot with an oxy torch, then was able to unscrew them with a vice grips, very easily.

Alternatively, one could machine down the flange, create a new one on a lathe and then press-fit it onto the original cast piece with some LocTite to hold it in place.
