MG TD TF 1500 - Way off topic....
....but I know there are many here with aviation interest. Warning : some explicit language...don't watch if you will be offended by that. http://youtu.be/JYAq-7sOzXQ |

The truth? Our iPads are always ON in the cockpit! They are approved EFBs (Electronic Flight Bags)! All of our navigation charts are on them. Half the time, I've heard, crews forget to shut off their phones. The end result is a low battery as they try hard to reach out and touch someone. Our plane's wireless internet server is always on as well. I love this video! |

Dave, OT or not, glad you posted the video. I needed a good laugh. John |

I get the humor, but I have been answering that question for a number of years in the Medical field. Why can't we use cell phones? Well just last week we had an IV pump go haywire when the lady sitting next to it set her Iphone on top of it. The pump changed it's drip rate, but fortunately, the nurse caught it prior to any harm. We recreated the issue in our biomed department. Not supposed to happen, but it did. My two cents, but I really an uncomfortable enough on the cramped, jam packed flights we have to put up with now. I really do not want to be sitting next to someone chatting away on their cell phone for 3 hours. |

Bruce, I promise not to set my Android Smart Phone on the GPS receiver on my next Airline Trip. Truth be told, many private pilots use their phones and iPads in their cockpits as well. Warmly, dave |

Funny! My phone is never off, in the air or on the ground! I will admit, sometimes I wish it was never invented though. Grin. PJ |

Gents, Having worked in the design and manufacture of avionics for about 30 years I can state that avionics is tested for (RFI) Radio Frequency Interference, both susceptibility and radiated before type certification. After all there are a multitude of RF radiators on board all commercial and military aircraft. This falls into the same class of ignorant worry that is displayed next to gas pumps saying to turn off those same phones when filling our MGs. JMNSHO. Regards, Jim Haskins |

Bruce, there's probably not enough magic and mystery behind those IV pumps ;) On the other point-keeping people from chatting throughout may be the real reason and not some obxcurd technical issues as Jim rightly points out. I remember the discussion with the CTO of a big mobile phone company on in flight mobile services who basically said "not on my watch" for similar reasons. Mike |
