MG TD TF 1500 - What is this?

What is this and where does it go?

It is a flat steel plate that dropped somewhere on the passenger side of TD3042 as I was striping the car down for an eventual repaint and freshening of the chassis.

Lew Palmer

A little like the side cover of the clutch/brake pedal box, but that is on drivers side?
P G Gilvarry

I believe its one of a pair of plates that holds the body to the chassis.
There is a left and right each held to the loop on the chassis by 2 short 1/4 bolts and as I remember to the wooden cross member under the scuttle by another longer pair.

Look at the arrow in the attached picture.

JA Benjamin

It looks like the hanger for the exhaust that attaches to the gear box.

Frank Cronin

It looks like Moss #412-010 Bracket, Front Exhaust Pipe.

Jim,
I beleive that plate has an offset.

It's a horn support plate for a TD. Should have two. They go on the inside of the bulkhead, not the outside as shown with these two

L E D LaVerne

Laverne is spot on Lew. Cheers

I think Jim has it right. Two per car, one on each side of the hoop to the tub. Can't find an image and it's too cold in the garage to see about taking one. Bud
Bud Krueger

Definitely load spreaders for the horns Bud. They're designed to prevent the tub from fracturing where the horns attach. I fitted mine not that long ago, on the underside as Laverne correctly states.. Cheers

Laverne and Peter are 100% correct.
Sanders

Thanks, guys. I'll make a quick dash to the garage in -20 degree temps tonight to check.
Lew Palmer

Yep, Horn bracket backer plate
George Butz

Thanks everyone. You were right. Although both horns were off, the other one didn't drop off as the bolts had not been removed.
