MG TD TF 1500 - What is wrong with this picture?
I just put my wiper motor back on the TD, thanks to Lew for supplying a new spindle. It appears to be upside down compared to almost all the photos I have of TDs, but "Lucas" is the correct way around. The wires line up like this and it works OK. I tried turning it around but it was binding and did not seem to fit as well What is correct? Thanks Don That really is upside down. Sorry. ![]() |

Good day Mr. Hanna: The motor has a chromium plated case and seem the same in all contours as the attached photograph (I hope not very good at this computer stuff). The way the motor is sitting, in the picture is how it is mounted onto the top windscreen frame piece. Yours appears as correct and is proper except for the "bling! of the cover. No doubt an action taken by a previous owner ? However; I am not an M.G. expert and I am sure someone else will be able to clarify things much netter. Cheers then: Jack Emdall, TC6768/TD3191, Halfmoon Bay, B.C. ![]() |

This is not correct, you should turn it around. When LUCAS reads upside down than the wiper motor is correctly installed. Jasper |

Mr. Hanna: I forgot to mention the locking handle appears to be missing. Emdall |

Mr. Hanna: Mr. Nederhoed is correct, I wrote that I am no expert ! Emdall: |

One edge of motor should be flush with the edge of the windscreen top, the rest down below. Yes, Lucas will be upside-down. George |

Here is an installed picture. You just need a little black wrinkle paint. Cover up the chrome bits and also the bakelite bridge in front plus studs. Remove the screws and dab a bit of grease on the nipples that you can wipe off after the paint dries and they will not retain the paint. Note the front was not wrinkle painted but just plain semigloss black. You can see that and one of the screws in the reflection from the frame top. ![]() |

PO had installed mine upside down (LUCAS right side up) and I found that to turn it over I had to unscrew the nuts holding the bakelite bridge and turn that over on the motor for it to mount the windscreen frame correctly (i.e., with LUCAS up side down). Hope that helps. Jud |

Thanks everyone, it is now installed as you suggest just need to lengthen the wires. Anyone have a wire stretcher? Don |
D Hanna |
I do have a wire stretcher! Throw yer' wires "south" and I'll hook them up to the old Dakota ...stand back ...this could get ugly! |
David Sheward |
For the same reason (short wires) I decided the whole d@^med thing was ugly, looked better hanging on the wall and I don't drive in the rain to I tiook it all off, put chrome headed screws in the holes and have and clean, slick windshield. Reduced wind resistance has added 0.00007495 MPH to my top speed. Jud |
