MG TD TF 1500 - What wrench for a BA bolt?

I noted that the bolts that hold the fuel tank angle bracket onto the back of the TD are 2BA nuts. When trying wrenches, the only one that fits (tighly) is an 8 mm. Are there special wrenches for BA head bolts?

Whitworth was sloppy. It would probably work but would round the corners off. No SAE size came close to fitting.

There are wrenches / spanners in BA sizes.

Bruce, there are indeed.
Picked these up from a stand at the February MG Stoneleigh show this year.
Company doesn't appear to sell direct but you could always email them -

Back in the 60s I worked on the English Electric Canberra, most smaller bolts were BA.

My toolbox was full of BA wrenches including small double ended tube wrenches.

Wish I had them now.

See here, 2BA IS 8.23mm.

Generally speaking, I ignore what the "proper" size wrench is on small hardware. I go for the best fit, and sometimes it's a different sizing system than the screw itself! I find myself using Metric wrenches a lot on things that aren't Metric, especially on old worn hardware.

The MGB OD units use 2BA bolts and I always use an 8mm socket on them - there is usually enough slack in any socket / spanner to accommodate the slight oversize, in fact you get a better fit!

Plenty of Toolzone BA sellers on UK Ebay. But why not just grind out cheapo spanners with a disc cutter and re stamp to suit, it is not as though they were part of the toolkit.
I am lucky enough to have worked with all of the UK thread systems, so still have all my tools.

Forget your "wrenches", clean the bolt heads up and try a 5/16" "imperial" AF spanner or socket (or 8mm if you want to go "European"). :)

Thanks all. I was pleasantly surprised how inexpensive a set of BA deep sockets is. I am sure these are not "quality" tools, but for the few times I will need them for the TD, They will work fine.
