MG TD TF 1500 - Which key is the right one?
What is the right Key for the TD? Inspired by the thread concerning the ignition switch reconditioning, I would ask all of you how the right key for our TD car look like. I have 3 types and all of them works perfect. On is stamped FA507 and the other one’s also obviously made to the same specification. As far as I know: 1. The Number one (1) in the enclosed picture is a Moss type 2. Number two (2) is stamped FA and marked: Made in England, UNION , WILMOT BREDEN 3. Number tree (3) is stamped FA 507 and marked: Made in England, UNION , WILMOT BREDEN My question is, which one is the original one? Thank you Guenter ![]() |

my TD key is just like 2. |

FA series is correct for TD. Sandy |

Style #2 is like mine and I'm certain it's original. I also have exactly the same key style for my 1949 Triumph Renown, though it's an FSxxx key. |

@Lew and @Sandy, you are right, for the TD car the FA code key is typical the right choice. All the keys shown on the thread start shows key all with the FA profile and all of them fits to the lock in my car. My question is not linked to the key profile but for the different heads. Thank you and have a happy new year, Guenter |

Mostly with regard to LBC's in general, I've seen the sytle #3 keys used for doors and boot lids. |

Ideally #2 and it should say Union on it. Decades ago my FA cylinder went off to another land and I pulled the whole cylinder and key and replaced it with an FS. Works exactly the same and looks correct unless the key is in it. The rectangular key gives it away for the three of you that know. :-) |

My key says Made In USA. Guess I know it's not original :) |

Number 2 Guenter. Without a doubt, but was the lock number originally engraved on the key also? Chris. Make that 4.. Also the FS Chris. FA is almost certainly the original lock/key for the later TD. MRN is almost certainly correct for the early TD. The question that needs to be resolved is when exactly did they run out of MRN's? See the other thread. Cheers Peter TD 5801 |
