MG TD TF 1500 - Which Tonneau Cover

Christmas is upon us. I am thinking of putting a Tonneau cover for the TD on my list.
(My list will have one item!)

I find that LBC has a made in England one for $395.

Abbingdon's is listed at $590
Moss says $630
and FTFU says $615. (But that's for a TC)

I have no top or side curtains yet so I would want some assurance that, eventually when I buy the top and side curtain covers there would be a match.

Are there other sources?

What is the groups recommendation?

Consider a local upholstery guy. Get recommendations from your club. You can get it custom fitted, faults fixed and you can choose the fabric.

But that would commit me to the vendor for the top and side curtains at an unknown price and it would mean I would need to truck the care there since it is not registered or fully running.

On the bright side the upholsterer Wayne uses (Chasing Classic Cars) is in the next side.

I would really prefer to fit it myself since most of the Lift the dot post are already installed.

I had mys seat covers done by a "Professional" and I would have done better.

I have heard that Robbins products sold by many vendors such as Tops Online are not as expensive as the usual MG sources. Maybe others have had direct experience with Robbins product.

It's always going to be a problem to match fabric after time has passed. I would buy it all at once, either now or later.

I would talk with LBC and see who is their vendor, and see if the quality is OK.

I also got a local guy to make mine. He only charged me 180€ and it's made from "Sonnenland" fabric which is used by BMW and Audi. He also did my seats and did a very nice job indeed.

Moss cover great quality- waterproof, nasty grease and other stains come out without any damage. As far as color match, technically best to buy all at the same time from the same supplier. However, the cover won't be on with the curtains and top up so that shouldn't matter. Moss always has an annual upholstery sale with big discounts. George

I would think that as long as the colors are close. it would be OK?? When do you used the hood AND the tonneau at the same time??

Jim, Steve hit it on the head - when's the last time you had your side curtains on with the tonneau cover in place? LBCarCo generally sells Moss products. If Moss is having a %off sale and the LBCarCo 15% is taken off, I can see the low price. Would give you a good likelihood of getting the same mfr's product later. Bud

I see now that the LBCarCo tonneau covers are not Moss items. With the discounts the Moss one would still be about $450. Jeff's products are generally very good. Bud

On colder days I always drove my TF with side curtains and tonneau in place. I modiried the tonneau so the rear side curtains could be used at the same time.A good hat and jacket with large collar make for fine winter driving.

I talked to Jeff at LBC.
He was non committal on the benefits of the UK made tonneau vs the moss tonneau which just now would cost about 475 with Mosses 12% and Jeffs 15%.
The disadvantage of the UK version is a 15 week wait, no return and no cancellation.

Perhaps Just to due diligence I should contact the Top maker that Wayne uses.
