MG TD TF 1500 - Windscreen Rubber Paint Scuff

Hi all
As I have posted recently, I have the windscreen off the TF to repair damage from a rock. With the assembly off, I was surprised to see how much scuffing there was across the cowl where the windscreen rubber sets on the paint. It has only been 18 months since the new paint. Some of this is light pitting that won't rub out. The rubber was new.
Has anyone come up with a solution for this issue? I've read mention of it from others on the BBS. Some have resorted to leaving that rubber off. Not a good solution for me. My car is a "nice driver".
What could prevent this? A coating of silicone spray? Packing tape on the inner side of the rubber? A daily wipe down under the rubber?

I take mine off when I drive. Having said that it still scuffs a bit even for light driving.

Whatever you put there will get dirt into it and the movement of the windshield will act like sandpaper and scuff it.

You could try some of the clear plastic body covering that they are putting on cars these days. Not sure how you would cut it without also cutting through to the paint too. You would have to put it down with some tape at the edges and trace the outline of the rubber and then remove it, cut along the line and then place it down right at the edge of your current scuff line.

Tom,
Could it be that you installed the windscreen and rubber befor the paint had ample time to set up and resist the scratching???

I have used clear acrylic packing tape on rub areas on the paintwork with good results. Never thought of using under the rubber, where my paint is scuffed too.

I buy the tape at Staples. The acrylic tape is crystal clear and is unaffected by UV light.

Tom, before I restored my TD, I found very similar scratches on the cowl paint. Since then, whenever the car is washed, I use a damp cloth to wipe under the rubber strip to remove any dust or other abrasive substances. So far, so good although my car (and owner)is very selective about driving weather.

Thanks guys
Steve, the paint cured for 2 or 3 months before I put the windscreen on and drove it. Probably enough time.
Based on responses, seems to be a common issue. I think I will resort to wiping that area down with a towel after washing and runs.
