MG TD TF 1500 - Windshield mounted side mirrors - MGTD
Just got in a pair of very inexpensive chrome rectangular side mount mirrors meant to fit Harley motorcycles. To my surprise, they fit on the windshield stanchions perfectly and contain all the hardware you need, including a conical washer! In the photo you will see I have temporarily mounted it with a nut but it comes with a domed acorn nut which will look much better once I cut the threads to fit. I would recommend buying a set of the Moss 408-660 cone space washers because they will fit better than the conical washer provided; but the one provided will work (they are simply not as wide as the Moss washers). To sum up: using two of the Moss part 408-660 conical washers, and cutting off about half inch of the thread on the arm provided, these mirrors fit perfectly and match the MG style well. Best of all, they cost $9.99 apiece. http://www.jpcycles.com/product/7600337 ![]() |

I too have Harley mirrors on my TD, they work great. Been on there for years. |

I've looked at these before but I'm thinking a convex mirror would give a better end result? They sell some, but are in the $55 range. Not sure how they mount either? For $10 bucks I guess it's worth a try. Maybe a good excuse to talk my wife into a Harley to match! How do you like yours on the road? Ed |

Ed, I'll report on that when I've got them on the road... just mounted them this a.m. :) Maybe Tom can tell us that? Too hot to drive the MG in Tucson right now, I probably won't be back on the road for at least a couple of weeks... But as you say, it's hard to beat the price. And the look great! |

I found these on Amazon for $23 a pair and free shipping. The plating is quite good for the price and they came with 2 different sized studs and acorn nuts, one of which fit the windscreen bracket perfectly.

But the won't stand up to a deer... :-) It's a Harley... can't wait to see the expression on their faces when I tell them I hit a deer.

Is there an optics expert who can explain what convex, concave and flat mirrors do? Jan T |

I'm no optics expert but a flat mirror gives you a true picture of what's happening behind you. A convex mirror gives you a bigger area of vision but does tend to make things appear smaller and further away so be careful when pulling out. I don't think you can buy a concave rear view mirror, it would serve no purpose. Hope this helps. |

Jack Long, I couldn't find those sharp lookers on Amazon, can you help? Chuck |

Attached is a photo of my mirror. they are Harley Davidson and cost about 60 bucks for the pair. They install quickly and use the cone washer as those in the first picture. They are ones that say objects are closer than they appear. been on my car for at least ten years and are great.

My niece gave me some stickers for my mirrors that said..."objects in mirrors are losing"... I gave em to my brother inlaw. Figured they were more appropriate on is 427 Cobra wanta be. |

Jan, A flat mirror is recomended for the drivers side, where the driver is close to the mirror, but a convex would be recomended for the passenger side which is farther away from the drivers point of view,, and it will give a wider view of what is going on over on that side of the car... SPW,, |

Sorry, here is the photo of the Amazon mirrors on the car. The BBS will not let me upload files from my iPad.

I did the same thing years ago as did Geoff. The Harley store had some mirrors with the HD logo embossed that were twice the price or more of the plain ones. I think I paid about 20 bucks for the plain pair, trimmed the threaded part to fit some acorn nuts and used the MG conical washers. I wouldn't be without the side view mirrors especially with the RHD I have.

Not to knock any other choices out there but personally I think the unadorned stamped rectangular mirrors with plain bars just say "MGTD" better than anything else out there. Seems to just fit the car. Possibly BECAUSE it was simple and cheap :) |
