MG TD TF 1500 - Wiper Motor

Does anyone know if the early cars came with the wiper motor mounted upright. As you can see, mine came to me that way.

I think not Bill because the hood would not be able to be used. Cheers

The other thing is that the hole for the wire is in the cowl below the wiper and the hole where the wire exits the frame is just to the right of the motor connection in the windscreen frame.

I can't believe how many DPOs mount the wiper motor so the word LUCAS is right side up. These were used on almost all small MGs from 1933 to 1953 and numerous other vehicles of that period, so it is mounted to fit, not so you can read the manufacturer's name.

Yeah. Somebody at the factory screwed up with the position of the hole on the windscreen frame.

Just pull out enough conductor to reach around to the other side where the terminal block is (via the front).

Bill.
Your top section of frame is probably from an early RH drive car with the driver maiming wiper,

Well, it’s an interesting old car. FYI; the motor was connected and the windscreen wipers showed definite wear. In fact the end of one of the wiper arms was wrapped in electricians tape, presumably to keep the arm from scratching the windscreen. It also had a top and sidescreens. Maybe the woman who owned it for 40+ years liked to ride around in the rain with the top down. Apparently she primarily used the car to wrangle the floats, marching bands, etc for Wilmington’s (NC) Azalea Festival Parade. By the way, for those of you who know American football, she was Sonny Jergensen’s sister.

It’s a mystery who she found to work on the car. I grew up in the same town and was never able to find anyone to work on the Sprites, TRs , etc I owned as a kid.

The only foreign car mechanic in town was Gunter, who had been in a nearby POW camp diring WW II, and came back after the war. He was the VW guy in town. He would mess around with the SUs if you pleaded with him.

Bill: That is a great "unrestored" car picture, but somebody did remount the windscreen wiper motor.

Notice how much wire it has?

No way to to secure the top without cutting a hole in it. :-)
Christopher Couper

Mine went on today.....upside down.
