MG TD TF 1500 - Wiper motor parts

Sorry if this is a repeat, I sent this a while ago but I can not find it posted.
The TD wiper motor was not working. I cleaned and re lubricated and it is now working. However I noticed the spindle is not true, bent near the end. I would prefer to have a replacement instead of risking damage while trying to straighten it, especially since it still works.
It is also missing the park handle.
Anyone know of a source for replacement parts?
It is a Lucas CW but is chrome instead of black wrinkle paint like every other TD that I have seen.
The wiper motor on this car is mounted in the centre, between the wipers. I have seen them mounted to the left, right and centre. How was it decided where they should go?
Thanks
Don

Hi Don,
I can't be of any help as far as parts go, but can advise you about the location of the wiper motor.

The TCs with RH steering, have the wiper motor on the left.

The TDs with LH steering, have the wiper motor on the right.

Later TDs had the wiper motor in the centre. Yours must be a later TD and probably a 53.

Thanks George.
I thought that could be it but was not sure.

Don - The following people repair the wiper motors and gearing: Lawrie Rhoads info@british-car-part-restoration.com or Lew Palmer lpalmer@roundaboutmanor.com Cheers - Dave
David DuBois

Thanks Dave,
I have repaired it but would like to replace the spindle just because I know it is not right and I would like to replace the missing park handle.
I will send an email to the 2 people you suggest to see if they would sell the parts I need.
I see on your web site that you had a non painted wiper motor on your car as well. Did you ever find out why?
All the best,
Don

Dave et al,

Actually, my email address was changed a couple of years ago. The new one is lew (at) roundaboutmanor (dot) com

If Don will email me with his address, I'd be happy to mail him a new shaft.
Lew Palmer

Thanks Lew, email sent

My motor ('53 TD center mount) is non-painted. I've never seen one painted. Were any painted from the git-go?

Jud, I think that yours is the exception. AFAIK, painted was the norm. Bud

Thanks, I'll have to look more closely - maybe it's painted grey. I'll try to post a better picture later.

Jud, FYI it's also upside down. Bud

I know, that was one of the first things corrected after delivery. :-)

Every CW1, 2, 3, or CWX that I have ever seen was painted with a crinkle black paint. The exception were the very early (pre-1934) wipers with the odd shaped cover with the vertical pressed-in grooves. These were always a semi-flat black (non-crinkle).

The grey colour is the colour of the metal which is some sort of aluminum alloy. The original wrinkle finish probably chipped off in places and some previous owner finished the job by stripping the whole wiper motor. I have a bunch of wiper motors and most of them are partially or completely paintless. I don't think the original paint adhered to the metal very well.

The metal is bare and looks and feels pretty much like the metal that the SU carbs are made of. If it was stripped the PO did a heckuva a job. Absolutely smooth with no scratch or abrasion marks. The front face appears to be steel because it has a patina of fine rust. It has some numbers and letters stamped into it but about all I can read is 12 volts.

FWIW, clearer picture (taken under flourescent lighting so the color is way off - the casing really is dull grey).

My wiper motor on the 1953 is similar to a SU with high gloss.
I am looking at a restored1950 with same wiper motor.

Don; The Park handle and nut are listed in the Moss Catalouge part#160-500. They are listed with a price so I think that means they are still available. Send me an e-mail, I found some parts for your TD.
C.R. Tyrell

my wiper motor is the same metal. So it originally had black finish from the factory?
