MG TD TF 1500 - wipers

Wipers are a problem but does anyone know a fix to help get some pressure on the blade. Mine are loose as a goose. I have not tried bending the arms because I did not think that would be productive. Any tips?
Gary Fisher

Gary,
The tension to the windscreen is from a spring type strip inside the arm. Have you tried a new arm from any of the normal suppliers?
Too much tension is also no good as it will stress the motor. Also, best to wet the screen when testing the system.

While you are working on the tension of your wipers, remember … Rain-X is your friend.

I was amazed The first time I used Rain-X on the windshield of my ‘54 Chevy pickup with non-working wipers in a Florida rain. Water beads up and flows off. Since T-Series wipers are primarily for entertainment purposes only, I use it in my TFs, too.

I commented on this earlier. It is amazing in a land with the rain like the UK, that they had such a weak wiper system. other than adjusting the wiper arms on the stalk (more towards the glass or away from the glass). I don't know what else will help.

The early Boeing jets had a rain repellent (Boe-shield) dispensing system. The feeling among my fellow crew members was if you need to push that button you should not be there. I think that same philosophy applies here when speaking of windshield wiper systems on these roadsters.

I second the rain-x endorsement.

Tom,

Boeshield T-9 makes WD-40 look like plain water. It is the best lubricant I have ever used. Find it on Amazon.

The rain repellent is Nasty stuff. We had to write it up if it was ever used.

Thanks for responses. Bottom line, try bending to get more tension. Use rain X. Stay home if it rains.
Gary Fisher

Bend gently, too much will destroy a TD wiper motor.

I would not bend the arms for the above stated reasons. rain-x does a great job.
