MG TD TF 1500 - Wiring harnes type

I'm thinking about replacing the wiring harness on one of my TD's. I did this about 5 years ago on another of my TD's but I can't remember what type to use. The TD that I'm going to work on is #29995( made on the last day of production for TD's). There are two types shown in the Moss catalog. What are the differences between the two? Given that the price is the same, is one better than the other. Are they both "original" to TD's at some point in production? I am happy with what I used in the past but I can't find the invoice to set me in the right direction. I had no problem with the Moss product so I am going to stick with them rather than chancing it on somebody else's product.
Thanks in advance,
Mark

Mark,

Moss will probably have your purchase history if it wasn't too long ago.

Log on to your account and go to "Your Order History".

Dan,

I tried that and in spite of the tons of money I spent with Moss there are only a few items that show up and this is not one of them. I might have ordered it from LBC and should probably check there as well. However, I'm still curious as to what the basic differences are between the two types of coverings.

I'm a TF owner and a short timer as well. I just started this adventure about a year ago so I can't offer you much advice. I do recall there being a difference in covering colors. Seems it had something to do with early or late cars.

I assume you gave them a call as well.

They have always been very helpful to me whenever I needed assistance.

There are a lot of choices...turn signals..no turn signals...add turn signals...

The main difference in any given harness is the covering on the wire. One will be as original...cloth outer covering and the individual wires will also be cloth covered. The other will be cloth covered but the individual wires will be covered with pvc. I've done one of each. If originality isn't your bag...go with the pvc. It's more durable and will hold the color for future tracing much better and it's much easier to strip the ends for the connections. Just my opinion.
MG LaVerne

LaVerne,

Thanks, the harness that I used had PVC wires covered with the cloth. I found some left over scraps of wire last night and your comments are helpful. I'll go with the PVC. Originality vs practicality. I don't think that most folks would notice the difference and I really don't care. I want ease of installation and durability. This is for my driver so it won't make any difference and should hold up well. The reality is that the car will outlast me regardless of which type I use but I feel that the PVC could be easier to install. This TD will never win any originality awards! Mark

Hi Mark,

Be careful. My brother bought a new loom for his TF and it is a "Universal" one and has wires for both a front or rear mounted pump. They same may apply to certain ones for TDs with and without indicators.
