MG TD TF 1500 - WOOD SOURCE

Good day to all,
Does anyone have experience with TD tub replacement wood from Brown and Gammons or Hutson? With Craig Seabrook gone and Classic Wood Products months-long delivery schedule, I am looking for alternatives.

Thanks for any help you can give,
Jim

There was somebody advertising in the most recent copy of the MG Octagon Club bulletin - Andrew K Denton, www.mgashframes.co.uk
Don't know anything about his work though.

Check out Hutson on YouTube. An interesting video showing the process they follow.
Viewed their work in person and thought it was first class. Likely better than original. Nike time, just do it.

Depending on the extent of your replacements, on you abilities, and on the time that you have to complete the project —- consider purchasing a completed tub with all wood and doors installed from Hutson. I have talked to people who have purchased them. They are happy.

If I had purchased when I started my TF restoration over four years ago, I would be money ahead and driving the car.

I have watched the Hutson video. It is a great video. Since they build the metal around the wood, like the original cars, it doesn't necessarily mean that the replacement parts would be easy (a very relative term) to fit to my existing body.

Lonnie, I was able to use the whole left side by using the epoxy penetrating sealer and some epoxy filler. The right side needs a new main rail and both the latch pillar and the hinge pillar.

Dave, I looked up Andrew Denton's website. Looks interesting. I think I will call and talk to him.

However, I was hoping to find someone who had actually used the wood from one of the UK manufacturers. I'm not sure where Brown and Gammons gets their wood. It could be Hutson, for all I know.

Anyone with experience with any of them?

Thanks,

Jim

Hi Jim, Bought my complete TC tub from Hutsons and actually visited there premises. A real traditional type workshop with shelves of tub components. The've a t type cut down chassis and jig on which the build is assembled. I would also add that whilst there, there was a stack of 50 timber wheel knock off "wrenches" invoiced to Moss so I suspect they indeed supply them as well as others. There was also a crate destined for the U.S. containing a finished tub. My Tub is well finished in primer with doors that hand perfectly. Although my old tub was/is repairable with all else that needed doing from chassis up I decided to bite the bullet and sitdown whilst I paid out for a complete new tub. No other interest in them other than a satisfied customer

I have a new tub from Hudson surplus to my needs. It is for sale, Location is in Minnesota so no overseas shipping. Still in the original primer.

Thanks JK, I appreciate the customer review. Gary, I'm not there yet. The challenge of rebuilding the tub is still driving my efforts.
