Welcome to our Site for MG, Triumph and Austin-Healey Car Information.
MG TD TF 1500 - Wow! What has happened to this site?
I know I haven’t been contributing for a long while as my automobile restoration projects has changed. First. My IPhone is warning me that this site is not secure. It seems like it used to be or at least I never got site warnings before my return a couple of weeks ago. 2) What happen to all the daily activity that once was the norm? Doesn’t look like there are more than 1 new thread a week and the responses are barely above that. Bill Chasser TD-4834 TD/c-8151

For what ever reason, most newbies went to the other site starting a few years back. Yes it is more modern and easier to navigate and looks more modern. The majority of the knowledgeable old timers on here have passed away, sold their cars, etc. Don Harmer- Ga. Tech nuclear professor, Dave DuBois - nuc sub tech, Blake, Gordon Lawson and many others are gone. The sad thing it that 80% of the questions asked on the other board are in the archives, here, often with great fact based answers. There was never the mindless drivel that frequently populates the answers on the other board. Thankfully, Tom L, Len F. Chris, you and a few others keep the flame burning on the other site. Happy Monday! George

I think the big issue is that this site has not kept up with the times. The software / user interface is ancient. I always preferred the community on this site, personally.
Steve Simmons
Let me have another conversation with the sites author to see if we can get an upgrade. Its sort of an aside for him now and requires little to no work to keep it alive, and a change may be too much effort for the return.

Another site? Great.... where ? Lead me to it!!! |

Please don't change the technology of this site. Call me an old foogie but I like the simplicity of this site. I don't "do" facebook or things similar to face book. The "other site" has way too much peripheral junk. JMHO Jud Chapin '53 TD '62 MGA MkII '72 MGB I just like to drive...

There are lots of other sites from Facebook to email lists to forums. But most are full of attitude and useless banter.

Steve S - see my thoughts on Bill Chasser's thread (re NOS Green vinyl) - posted before I saw this separate Thread, but our thoughts coincide. I would NOT like to see this BBS become extinct. John.

Same here. I keep watching the news regularly. Security warnings may just be an expired certificate, these days everything needs to be certified… Look and feel is fine for me and it‘s ad free, thank god. And especially the picture management is good, despite its limitations. Lots of other sites where pictures relied on an external hoster that went out of business and now many threads are pictureles/useless. Rgds Mike

I would hate to see this site go,it's the best. I might not post very often, but I look at this site everyday.

Is it just me or is the MG Experience site been hacked with a virus. Everytime I open a post I get these fake virus messages etc. This has been for the last few days.
Christopher Couper
That site has really obtrusive ads. It's almost useless on a smart phone. The owner had a beater MGB 20 years ago when he started it but sold it and is basically non-existent now. No one can get a hold of him. That's probably why the fighting and politics always happen.

I visit here almost daily. Enjoy any issues that pop up. The facebook stuff is not at all satisfying! No upgrades needed here except for maybe more users coming by. There is a great connection to other owners that just stopped for no good reason. I think all the T's are still around.

I find that the 'site works fine and its repository of previous topics is gold! I guess today there are many alternative sources, especially Facebook where some folk look for answers (@ their peril!). There are also the many Club sites. My recent enquiry about coolants was well addressed here and in a timely manner. Most grateful. Is there a need to promote the 'site among the various clubs? Merv

Apropos of nothing, my new mantra is: Artificial Intelligence - A solution looking for a problem; If it can't find one, it will create one. My long-time rule for good living is KISS. Thanks to everyone who has contributed to this wonderful site and helped keep my TD, MGA and MGB on the road. Jud

I check every day for new posts, and post help where I can. There are a lot of other forums on this host so I doubt you would get much traction to change. I look at Facebook groups as well, but I think there is more real info here.

True Judd. The problem with AI sourced data summaries is that it can lack the real world opinions of users and experienced experts.
M Hyde
| I also agree with Jud. Why changing something that works, is easy to use and is sufficient ?
Years ago when I bought my TD I ran accros several forums and this one happens to be the best regarding the content thanks to the experts that were participating. I quickly abandonned visiting the others. This one was far more rich of ideas, tricks, history and technical explainations. No casual conversation or battle between particpants. Mutual Respect and answer to the initiator was the fundamentals. Content is the most important. Not visual aspect or latest MMI which is basically only fashion. Using Facebook necessitates to create an account -with data collection of course. Thanks to all. I keep visiting this site and not the others. Laurent. |

| I’ve noticed that I’m getting alerts that this site is not secure. If it persists I’ll not be back until it’s corrected.
I was an active member here for about 20 years offering help and advice. I left primarily because there was a barrage of obnoxious mean spirited attacks by a member on this site towards one of the former regulars (Peter H from OZ). It got increasingly toxic by the stateside member who for whatever the reason couldn’t give it a rest. Fed up with the lack of oversight from the administrator my friend from OZ hung up the towel and left the forums for good. It was a big loss to the knowledge base of this group when he went dark. I was fed up as well and made my point…also leaving. I was also on the EXP. I got tired of that site because I got tired of the same questions being asked in a redundant fashion. Some admitted old timer on this thread (no disrespect as I’m one as welll now) mentioned don’t change a thing, he like the archive here vs other sites. Well… I don’t think either site is particularly friendly. This site’s archives are cumbersome in other ways. But that’s another topic all together. I’ve shied away from the other site as well for similar reasons. Moments of toxicity not surprisingly by the same person. My phone also says they are not secure. And the are constant annoying advertisement pop ups that make it nearly impossible to read the posts content without interruptions. Certainly the activity I’ve seen has grown on their site. But it’s more of the some. Redundant ??s because those asking are to lazy to do the work and search for the asset first. Then there are those providing inane answers just to see themselves in print. Don’t get me wrong I don’t mind answering question and even owning up to my mistake should I give out misinformation. But I’m getting older and more tired and don’t care to keep transferring g questions when a person can simply scroll down the last several pages and find the answer 2-3 times Thanks for replies guys. It’s nice to know we’re not all assuming room temperature… yet! |

Bill, You are getting the not secure message because of who ever runs this, and probably the whole enthusiasts site, has not renewed the security certificate for the site. This I believe has to be done every year. Bernie

Bill, check PM on MG exp. board. George

This site is secure. Are you accessing it via https? BTW I attempted to make the archives easier to use by categorizing them and putting pre selected search terms in for popular topics. It can be accessed even without an account. https://www.mg-cars.org.uk/mgtd/mgtd_technical_category.htm and for quick searches with your own terms https://www.mg-cars.org.uk/mgtd/mgtd_search_forum.php

I like the archives and its semi-Boolean search engine but, then again, I liked the 3X5 indexcard file at the library. Stumbling down interesting tangents often led to serendipitous illuminating discoveries. Jud

Would be nice to keep it as it is. I have enough problems with software updates. I don't recognize my cell phone after an unannounced update.
