MG TD TF 1500 - XPAG Crankshaft needed

I have the opportunity to get the original engine back for TD/c 16920 for a replacement engine. The engine that I was going to freshen up as an exchange ended up with a broken crank and I don't want to use my new Moss crank in the build. I'm looking for a certified good crank that has been Mag tested and checked for trueness. If it has been machined that is fine also. Can anybody help with a reasonably priced crank.

The owner of my engine originally didn't want to give it up but has now decided at the last minute to do the swap. I offered my labor to R&R the swap and a build for in exchange for the TD3 engine. I really need this to happen as it is one of the earliest TD3s built

All inquiries will be answered please contact me at the above email with a phone # and I will contact you directly.

Thanks in advance

Hi Bill - I know a fellow that has (had) 8-9 cranks but don't if any are for sale yet. I got one two years ago with bearings but don't remember the cost. I also know of another fellow that had one 5-6 years back with bearings also. Drop me a note and I'll give you the lead on it. Cheers Sam

I don't think it matters at all, but your engine was the 9th engine labelled TD3 installed. Internally a TD3 engine is no different from any other TD/C engine, just called TD3 rather than TD2.

Thanks Tom. I thought it was within the first ten or so. Car was built June 7th 1952 ( I may be off a few days). This is an appearance package equipped car. Wondering if the A/P started in conjunction with the TD3 designator? I'm aware that there isn't any noted differences with the engine unless it was uprated with performance stage tuning but I still want to get it back in its rightful place. I bought an early TD2 block from Hugh earlier this summer as a replacement prior to actually locating the original. There's an interesting thing to note about the button. It is stamped with a #3 just like the TD2 buttons were stamped with a #2. I wonder how many were done this way before the embossed TD3 buttons were put in production? Have you noted any done this way in your experience?

I have owned a T-Series continuously since June of 1951. I've bought several new from an MG dealer including TF 4592 which I still own and drive; and I think I know Ts pretty well.

Irrespective of that, I've never heard of an "appearance package". Maybe its the model with a rumble seat and racoon tail fixed to the wireless antenna?

... yeah ... that's gotta to be it!

At 83, perhaps I'm never too old to learn something.

Gord, TD/c's body exteriors prior to June 1952 were visually alike along with their standard brethren with the exception of the bulge in the right bonnet side panel. The "Appearance Package" did exist and came out in June 1952 as part of the TD/c MK II option and was first listed in the an update publication in late 52/ early 1953. (I don't have the cite). It was "only" a TD/C item. There seems to be differing opinions as to when the launch of the "Appearance Package" took place and I don't want to rehash this here. The "Appearance Package" included chrome grill slats, an under dash chrome passenger grab bar, 4 MG Black background medallions on the road hubcaps, an enameled B&W MG Octagon Grill medallion, an enameled B&W MG Octagon medallion mounted to the spare tire hubcap, B&W enameled "Mark II" badging on the front forward upper bonnet panels and a plinth mounted one to the center of the rear bumper and reflectors inboard of the overriders. I think that covers the package but maybe Tom Lange will chime in on something I may have missed.

Bill. Have one that was in my TD that had the catastrophic engine failure. It has not been checked for cracks and will need to be turned. Not sure if the damage to the journal caused by the rod bolt failing is too bad to be fixed.

I do have a magnuflux unit that we could do a preliminary check on the crank.

Happy to part with it. Yours if you want to take a look at it.

I keep saying I need to get down your way, so I can take the B for a nice ride if you want to take a look at it.

Bruce get my # out of the club roster and give me call. Are you going on the Carson city run tomorrow?
