Very interesting, LaVerne...just goes to show that NOTHING is easy about a rebuild, doesn't it?

Shows also that we have to be very careful when using replacement parts. Check eveything thoroughly, especially when brand new.

Seems to be the norm these days with just about everything....it's close...but....

Not sure why you didn't go with the solid copper head gasket though...they're available in thicknesses of .022,.032,.040,.043,.054,.063,.070, .086, .093, and .125 inches.

And they're reusable.

LaVerne, this senior citizen would appreciate a few more seconds of viewing time for the longer texts. Guess I could click on Pause.

Well done. Showing a lot of the things needed to really do the job well. Bud

Like Bud, I noticed the short time to read, but in the earlier parts; this pt 4 seemed better paced for that.

I did not quite follow the video about the oil holes in the rods you are using (this pt 4). Why are they like that? Aside from this one thing, (I am probably too dense to get) it seems the segments so far have a nice style that I would rate as quite good. Or, interesting and informative, not dull.

I know the reading time was probably a little short...probably because I already was reading what I wrote. I'll try and do a better job next time.

As for the head gasket...Manley thinks he has one that's the cat's meow..the copper ones tend to seep a little when cold...but who knows...it may come to that.

There are oil squirt holes in the old rods that shoot oil under the piston and on the cylinder wall. With the new rods instead of using "squirt holes" the oil would be flung up there by having a larger side clearance on the rods which my machine shop did not do when he ground the crank. So I have two choices now....1. drill squirt holes in the rods or 2. Have him mill some slots in the side of the rods which is what he recommends. The slots are the method used in modern engines and there is good reason for it verses the squirt hole.

Either one I'm not happy about with these spanking new rods.
