MG TD TF 1500 - XPEG dyno results

Another very happy customer! Normally aspirated with my Abingdon Performance STREET performance roller cam.

Hello Len,

Huffaker Engineering engine on the dyno, XPEG 1500c , 90 HP at 5200 RPM and 91.3 at 5500 RPM. The torque was 80 pound feet at 2500 RPM and 96.8 at 3700 RPM, it stayed in the mid 90s all the way to 5000 RPM and the started tapering off. The crew at Huffaker’s were very impressed since the engine is running stock intake and exhaust manifolds. It does have a Laystall aluminum head. No cylinder head or manifold modifications, 9.0: 1 C/R.

Hello all, I was asked what other modifications were done to this engine, here is the response;
Hi Len,
The compression ratio is 9 to 1 on an aluminum Laystall cylinder head. Bore size is plus 40 on a 1500 block. The distributer is stock with a Petronix inside. The Laystall head is not modified and the intake and exhaust manifolds are original and not modified. the test run was made with TF air filters installed. One and one half inch SU carburetors were used and Jim fine tuned the timing and carburetors during the dyno run. The crew made a number of runs before getting the engine to 90 HP at 5200 RPM with Jim making minor adjustments to the carburetors and timing.

Glad to hear it! It's a good piece of kit. I might be needing a replacement valve spring. Need to pull the rocker box to be sure, but I suspect I broke one.

Hi Len Fanelli,
Can you answer a question for me regarding Laystall Aluminum Heads. My Laystall Head was acquired for use on a 1250 cc XPAG TD engine. As I've had the head for some 60 years, I cannot recall exactly what the C/R was at that time. My memory says it was 9.0:1. My question is "is this the same head used on the XPEG engine which was bored 40 over and dyno'd above, and still giving a C/R of 9.0:1 on a larger engine?"

George on a 1250 it should be 8.0:1, 9.0:1 on a 1466.
Huffaker engineering built the engine & did the dyno testing for one of my customers.

Thanks Len, that answers my question and explains the C/R mystery for me. I am planning on putting my head on an XPEG block and was concerned about the compression being too high.

MG XPAG normally aspirated, Abingdon PERFORMANCE Ltd. street performance camshaft, XPAG 1350 CC dyno results: 75 HP, 72 lbs/ft torque, more than 64 lb/ft from 2600-5200! HP. A HP increase of about 40% WOW!
Torque increase about 15%
A very flat torque curve!!!
About 9.8:1 CR, OEM cylinder head ported by George Edney, Extractor exhaust manifold 1 1/2" carbs, MK 11 valves. See both photo's of stock dyno run & Mr. Bonners dyno run.
