Triumph TR3 - Top Bow Color

What color were the top bows in a late 50's TR-3A?
TIA and Merry Christmas!

Both of mine are a light sandalwood brown. I used Rustoleum sandalwood to refinish and it's just a bit more color than the original but very close. Maybe if I primed in white first the color would be spot on.

My TR3A was black when I bought it brand new in 1958. The bow sticks were black. It would seem logical that all were black as by the time the. factoryy assembled these to the interior, the car was already painted in it's final colour. For the BRG TR3A I finished last June, I re-sprayed the bow sticks for this one black.

The only ones who would dispute this are the judges at TRA. On page IN-9 of the TRA Judging Manual Rules, the hoodsticks were black but on a very late TR3A or TR3B, they might have been a tan buff. If your car is a very late TR3A and you do the hood sticks in black or in tan buff, the judges will not dock you any penalty points.

Some additional info. My 1959 TR3A had Sebrine White bows, the same as the color of the body of the car.

There were all kinds of differences as the cars left the factory. Or is it possible that a previous owner had them done this way ? Or are you an original owner as well ?

I am the original owner of my 1959 TR3A, TS43034L, and the bows were painted the same color as the body paint, Sebring white.
Last year I repainted the bows with as near a match for the Sebring white as I could find after removing rust here and there and priming the bare spots. Most of the bows still have the original Sebring white under a new coat of near match Sebring white.
Merry Christmas!

hrj - It's always nice to know about other original owners. I know of three or 4 in Southern California. During a 2 year period from 1984 to 1986, I travelled often to California and attended many TR meetings and events. My travels also took me to Camdenton near Lake of the Orzarks in Missouri. Drop me a line sometime by e-mail at :-

It is good to have histories from original owners documenting variant color schemes lest at some future point the color nazis come knocking on people's body color frames among other things.
