Triumph TR6 - 5spd for the TR6
Have any of you modified your TR6s to include a 5spd tranny. I am thinking of adapting the 5spd out of a 280zx or supra to put in my TR6. Any thoughts. I already have seen the ad for the 2500 buck bell housing, no thanks, I will make my own. Your thoughts. Greg

Hello, I have the same idea for a long period and I think that Terry's Jaguar could provide you this kit. They have a site at http://www.terrysjag.com/ and you must ask them via e-mail. As far as I remenber, they answer yes. But personnally when I will have time, I will try to fit a Volvo 240 +OD as it has british OD up to 1987. As Tr6 trans. is very easy to remove it will not be extremly difficulut to fit. Cheers' Jean G. Catford

I have a 1970 TR6 with the standard 4 speed Tranny. How does the TR6 with the overdrive compare to a 5 speed tranny? regards, Trevor

Hello, I have drive a TR6+OD and it is a lot quieter on highway. Unfortunately my TR6 as many standard ones does not have an OD. Cheers, J.G.

WELL YOU LEARN SOMETHING NEW EVERYDAY.I NEVER KNEW TR6,S WERE EXPORTED IN 4 SPEED MANUAL FORM.ALL UK 6,S HAD MANUAL +O/D ON 3RD AND 4TH GEARS.AS WELL AS A TR7 I ALSO HAVE A TRIUMPH 2500TC MANUAL O/D AND A TRIUMPH DOLOMITE SPRINT MANUAL NON O/D.THE 2500TC BOX IS IDENTICAL TO THE BOX FITTED TO THE TR6 THE SPRINT BOX HAS A DIFFERENT BELLHOUSING BUT OTHER THAN THAT IS BASED ON THE TR6.ALL 3 RUN A 3.45:1 DIFF THE SPRINT AT 70MPH TURNS AT 3800 RPM WHEREAS THE 2500TC AT 70MPH TURNS AT ONLY 2700RPM.PLUS YOU GET THE ADDED BENEFIT OF O/D 3RD WHICH IS EXCELLENT FOR OVERTAKING.PLUS OF COURSE THE 2500TC BOX WOULD DROP STRAIGHT INTO THE TR6. YOU COULD ALSO LOOK FOR A MANUAL STAG WHICH ALSO HAD THE SAME BOX ALTHOUGH I UNDERSTAND 90% WERE EXPORTED IN AUTO FORM.BEST OF LUCK.

Unfortunately a 2500TC is something rare in Canada as STAG. This is the reason we must rely on something else. Some of my club members have bought used 4sp+OD and it was usually a piece of junk. Cheers, JGC

I feel very priveleged. My two triumphs are a very nice TC2500 with Odrive and an TR6 with the same. Unfortunately the TR6, with less miles (accoridng to the clock which is supposed to be original) has a worn 3rd gear that will need work in a few thousand miles. The TC has unkwon miles (probably round the clock at least twice now, but a gearbox smooth as silk. Now who would have guessed they have the same box. Are you sure about this? I know the Diff is the same, but the boxes feel quite different. Anyway, any of you Trumpy fans make it to Brissy, drop me a line. Shaun
