Triumph TR6 - Distributor Vacuum

Hi guys, my first time on this page, just bought my 72 TR6 last August and love it.

I just had my distributor rebuild and it cam back without the vacuum dashpot. I was told that it retards the timing and is only used to retard the timing and reduce the idle speed and that most guys run without it for better performance.

Does anyone have experience with this?

Thanks,
Ken

Who did the rebuild?
DON KELLY

Since the retard capsule is connected to manifold vacuum it will only come into play at idle and possibly "easy" cruising. It won't have any effect under hard acceleration, which is why some by-pass it.

Not having it may make it harder to get the idle down below 1000 rpm, but you'll have to see. I'm really surprised the rebuilder left the module off - kinda curious.

That's why I ask the previous question

Don

Jeff Schlemmer of Advanced Distributor. He says most TR-6 owners run without the vacuum attached, but will be happy to add it back on if I perfer.

They did the dizz on my 1960 MGA several years ago and it has been great.

Thanks for the explanation, I think I will give it a test drive and see where it idles.

There are a lot of variations, especially in the earlier models. Opinions vary.

How does it run?
EC Smith

If Jeff did it , he's the best there is and I would hold to it.
Did he install the timing wheel on it?
If there are people here who don't know of him ,check him out here.

Your car will run better than you've ever seen it.
Well, that might be an exaggeration, but it will run better.

The car is still in storage, hope to have it out within a week or two. I will let you know how it runs.

Jeff did do the rebuild and I agree with your assesment of his quality, there's no better and he's a great guy to talk to, very helpful!
Yes, I had him put the timing wheel on, I have it on the MG and love it, it save the bolt on the clamp.
