Triumph TR6 - Missing at low revs

Guys, I’m posting this on the TR6 board because the TR5 board seems a little quiet and the engines are the same. I have a 68 TR5 (PI) (which I’ve only had for a few months - previously I owned a 69 MGB). The TR5 misses at low revs usually when pulling away from stop. It only occurs once the engine has reached operating temp. It’s OK when its cold or just warm. The plugs, plug leads, coil and rotor button have been replaced, the distributor cap is OK. The compression on all 6 cylinders is OK. The timing has been checked and the tappets adjusted. Number 4 and 6 plugs seem to carbon up - the others are OK. The injectors haven’t been checked and I guess this is the next thing. When I feel the pipes to the injectors I can feel them pulsating and I understand that this is an indication that things are probably OK – or at least not blocked. Has anyone else had similar experience and found a solution?

Gary, I have SU carbs, not PI, but a similar problem for me was caused by the linkage on the carbs not being right. Also, check your fuel filter. JohnB

Gary - try a few doses of injector cleaner (Lucas or equivalent). You may have some carbon in them.

had the same problem brought it here was told to change coil and wires. NEVER HAPPENED AGAIN When coil heats it breaks down Moss has high performance coils on sale 29 bucks new wires 14 .Best money I spent took 1 year to track down problem and about 700 bucks in carbs re built new this new that, john

If you changed the cap without changing the rotor, I'd get it changed before I did anything else. Following that, John's coil probability would be next. Wondering if you've converted to EI. Electrics don't like heat. The coil strapped to the block is really not in a logical place.

Gary - I'll copy here what I told Roger H. from West Aust. He got his problem sorted out this way.

Most on this BBS for the TR6's (and TR5's) are from USA or Canada and we don't have more than a few PI TR6's here. I suggest you ask your question on the TR Register Bulletin Board. Most who go to that Forum are UK members and there all always lots of TR6 PI owners who respond there.

If your plug wires are getting old (high resistance), you can check them with a volt-ohm meter. If you get a reading of 10K or higher, you can be sure you'll need to replace them. This is especially true of carbon core wires.
