Triumph TR6 - Oil filter take off

Got the conversion kit for a vertical oil filter, plus SS lines to a cooler radiator. Question is how to protect the attachment. Is it steel and should be powder coated or painted or is it aluminum (I think i it is) and should be left alone or top coated with Eastwood Clear coat? All comments (even yours Don) are welcome. Thanks.

Better have gotten the oil thermo for the lines or you'll regret it.
DON KELLY

Doug... who did you buy the kit from?
Ken Shaddock

db... if the kit is from BPNW where I got mine it's aluminum hence no coating required. Ken

Ken,
Kit came from TRF, my primary supplier, but I do think it's aluminum. Don, why should I get the thermostat? Is it not good to cool the oil regardless or might I cool it too much without a thermostat? Thanks.

The oil in most applications stays to cool. If it runs thru the cooler when the car is cold ,takes a long time to get to temp.
DON KELLY

Done. Thanks. Where should I place the theromstat? Near the filter or closer to the radiator? As I recall both hoses run though the thermostat so it'll block the oil from circulating through the radiator until operating temperature is reached.

Doug,
Don's right about warm ups but, I think it might be a little warmer in Alabama than what we have here in the Northwest. I've mounted mine right by the alternator and used a garage door hook to mount it on. It's probably easier to show you a picture so here it is.

I'm not talking from personal experiences. More from communication with others around the country
DON KELLY

Benji,
Did you have to cut your SS hoses to put the thermostat in the middle like that? I figured on one end or the other of the hoses, but will have to relook that I guess. Thanks for the photograph.

You can purchase the hoses pre made in a Oil Cooler Installation Kit from Moss Motors. (I'm not sure if TRF carries them) The 4 hoses are measured to fit the thermastat in the exact location in the picture.
