Triumph TR6 - Oil pressure light.

Hello all. My '76 TR6 has an oil pressure light that glows when the car is shut off, but disappears immediately when it's running. Have excellent oil pressure - at least 70 - 80 when warm, but can't understand this. My remedy so far has been to remove the bulb. There's got to be a better way, no? Thanks in advance.

Does the oil pressure switch have the 3 thing on it?

By shut off TG - do you mean the light is on when the key is off or does it only glow when you put the key to the ignition switch on position?

If it glows when you have the key off- there is a wiring connection error and the oil pressure circuit is not connected through the ignition switch but direct to the battery somehow or your ignition switch is faulty I suspect.

The light should glow when you have the switch in the on position and then eventually fade out once the car is running.

The later 6's have a different set up at that switch, as I have an early car I don't have that problem. There is are known faults with that set up and somebody who has that style should speak up

Yes, the oil pressure switch (that's the thing that screws into the side of the block near the distributor, right?) is a three-wire, & the light stays on even if the key is removed. So far I've just disconnected the battery when I park it, but would like to get this sorted. Thanks.

You need to start by disconnecting 1 thing at a time and following it. I take it you don't have the Masters wiring diagram

Somehow I'm thinking that if the PDWA is tripped the oil pressure ( and brake pressure) light(s) will come on. Maybe a leak or problem with the PDWA?

Brent, On a 76 ,is the brake tied into that oil switch.
To lazy to look at the ski matic

Good call, Don. The '76 also has a "handbrake switch" tied into it. Hmmm. From what I remember when my PDWA tripped I'm pretty sure the oil pressure light came on. I'd only recall it because that light has NEVER worked on my car despite sensor changes & every wiring configuration possible.
