Triumph TR6 - Rebirth of the Dodge Challenger

If the '09 production copy looks close to this concept [http://money.cnn.com/2006/01/04/Autos/funonwheels/dodge_challenger/index.htm], I might have to stable one aside the TR.

Rick,

A better design than charger. They followed Ford Mustang retro-inspiration. When will we have a TR6 or may be a TR9. tNot in a near future unfortunately..

If they still had the Plymouth moniker, they could call it a em. Classic roofline, isn't it? I have fond memories of traveling many thousands of miles in my friend's Barracuda. Even got lucky once in his backseat! I used to be more flexible...

Chevy will have to revive the (early) Camaro next. And the Pontiac TA.

In a recent article in Classic Motoring, they spoke of a resuurection of the triumph badge by BMW..sort of a mini like retro approach. Maybe sooner then one thinks?

Rick,
Interesting pics of the Challenger concept car. Got me thinking about the whole idea of trying to resurrect glory from the past. It might help sales but I don't think the Charger enthusiast is very impressed. My neighbor has an early 70's Challenger that I just love, these cars were never all over the place in the seventies so it's great to see one. I hope Benz doesn't insult the few Challenger owners out there by dubbing a new model a "Challenger". I give Ford a break with the Mustang because atleast they have kept it on the line after 45 years, it went through a "dud" period but it was always a 'stang and now is back with a strong design. But Rick, I admit when I saw the picture of the prototype that I did let out an audible "ooh..." Maybe Challenger 2 would be ok!

Although I was driving a TR6 at the time I recall
thinking, begrudgingly, that the Challenger was the best looking pony car of that era, except for the interior of course. After all,I had real bucket seats and a real wood dashboard.
I assume if the Challenger "2" hits the streets it will have the "new Hemi".
Could be very interesting.

I would buy one of these. Never too early to aquire a future clasic.

I lusted over the real-deal Challengers & 'Cuda's of the day. Because they never sold in production numbers to rival the Camaro/Stang following, restored originals have incredible values today.

The retro-remake stirs me up like it was '71 all over again.

and speaking of the Camaro, supposedly there is a Camaro Concept car at NAIAS. Based upon styling for it, the Challenger and the current production Mustang, I keep coming back to the song "Stranded in the 60's" from the Uranium Savages.

Having been one of the lucky ones that actually owned a 1970 Challenger R/T, I can't wait till the new one hits the dealer. I will have one with the Hemi sitting in my garage, right beside the 1972 TR6. If the new one is anything like the original, I am afaid that the six will probably be sitting in the garage alot.

Saw a pic of the new Camaro in the newspaper today. Quite a bit like the Challenger, as they used to be.

My first new car was a 1974 Challenger, and I still had it when I bought my TR6 two years later. While there might be a message in the fact that I still have the TR, there are times when I wish I had kept them both. As you can imagine, the two presented rather different driving experiences.

I thought then, and still think, that the Challenger was the best looking of the pony cars, and the new one captures the look and stance of the original. I just hope that it is not as big as the 300C that it is based on.

Tony:
The 300c(only made in Canada?)is butt-ugly
and the Magnum spin -off even more so.
I hope Chrysler gets the Challenger right.
As far as different driving experiences I know what you're talking about. When I had my 6 I occasionly drove a friends'GTO(Pontiac, not Ferrari).
Talk about night and day!
