Triumph TR6 - Replacing steering col. bushes

Hi All
Just spent a while looking in the archives for subject on replacing the steering column bushings. I know this has been discussed before and should have did a cut and paste on the subject (it is not on my CD archive).
In particular is the procedure for removal and replacement of the upper and lower bushes with the "ears" and how to align with the holes in the column itself.
If any one knows the thread, please let me know it.
I plan on starting the job in a couple of weeks...with the aid of my garage heater:).
thanks
Rick

I believe that would be:

D'oh! Steering Column Bushing Replacement, 7 September 2003 @1710

and yes, it is a pain somewhat removed from the neck to do if you know what I mean.

There is someone who has a simplified way to do it . I think it is for the 6. I'll check into it.

Rick- way too cold in your neck of the woods to be doing this now.Have a nice cup of tea and have it done this way

Yea but Don, this doesn't really save you from the PITA part of the job. Knocking the bushings out, cleaning, repainting and installing new bushings is the easiest part of the job. You still have to mess with the steering column and the switchs, stuff the wires, mess with all the fiddly little brackets and braces behind the fascia, remove the steering lock (espcially if it still has the torque to shear mounting bolts), etc.

As for the bushing alignment, they were lined up by eyeball and knocked home using a thick wall pipe as a drift. Once the little tab buttons hit the holes on the steering column housing, they popped out and held the bushings in place.

WOW Steve, did not think it was that long ago on a "how to" for the bushes. BUT, still works for me. Will do a save to the computer on that post....From one old timer here to another, thank you kindly.

Impressive Don but I want to do the work myself. As you know, I built this car from scratch and will continue to do it myself. Got to do something on her this winter. Have just been driving her and not much maintenance over the past few years so this winter is fix it time. Also have to do a number on the brake servo as my brakes went "hard" towards the end of last year. Also my alternator is not properly alternating so have to send it out to the alternator Doctor.

Time to get the old over-grown blow torch out and get my propane tank filled up. Heck...half an hour of it running and the garage is toasty!

PS Don, Last time I had a cup of tea was about 32 years ago with my grandmother when she was alive.

Thanks again guys.
