Triumph TR6 - Triumph TR1

I appreciate this is not proper TR6 material at all but thought it was neat stuff... a diversion if you like. A friend and her hubby... they spotted my 6 in a car show this past weekend and wanted to tell me about their TR1. I had never heard of a TR1. They're English and before coming to Canada this was their car. They said it say three across the front seat and 2 in the "dickie seat" which we would call a Rumble Seat on a Model A Ford. They shared two pix from way back when.

What you've got there is a Triumph 1800/2000. It predates the 20TS/TR1. It was a prototype that scared hell out of Ken Richardson who then helped Triumph develop it into a usable sports car, the TR2.

We used to have customer with a 2000, 1949 model that I drove on occasion. It was different, RHD, column shift with a reversed three speed shift pattern. It was kind of neat in a novelty sort of way and was the last production car with a dickey/rumble seat, but I've never had the desire to own one myself having driven one.

If you look down toward the bottom of the model listings up front for this BBS you'll find the 1800/2000 page.

Roger that Steve. I'll take a look. Did not know the alternate nomenclature 1800/2000.

It was fun to meet with and talk to Brits who lived it back in the day over 'ome. I'd say this couple are in their late 70's and knew first hand what it was like to live in England during the blitz and buy and drive these cars in their day.

Ken,

It's not an alternate nomenclature. The 1800/2000 was it's own distinct model. It is completely outside the TR series family.

The TS20/TR1 was a totally different vehicle presented as a concept/prototype sports car but scared Ken Richardson as an ill tempered death trap that it never entered production. It did however provide the incentive for Triumph to develop the TR2 with Ken Richardson's guidance.

Sorry, misunderstood you. Just re-read your earlier post. So it seems these people are using the wrong term for their car.

I can remember a gun metal gray 1800/2000 from BC that used to attend the meets in Oregon and Wash. The persons first name was Norm and he usually wore a deer-stalker "Sherlock Holmes hat". The car always attracted a lot of attention and won many awards. That was in 1980-90.
